Free College Essays - Fear in William Faulkners A Rose for Emily :: A Rose for Emily, William Faulkner

The Power of Fear in A Rose for Emilyâ A Rose for Emilyâ Life is whimsical and a great many people will be a survivor of condition and the occasions. A few people decide not to let condition rule them and, as is commonly said, â€Å"time hangs tight for no man†. Faulkner’s Emily didn't have the individual certainty, or perhaps confidence and self-esteem, to accept that she could remain solitary and prevail at life particularly even with evolving times. She had consistently been controlled by, and relied upon, men to ensure, guard and represent her. From her Father, through the attendant Tobe, to Homer Barron, for her entire life was reliant on men. The couple of flashes of singularity demonstrated her capacity to meet people's high expectations, to defeat her reliance, when the activity was the main arrangement accessible. Like purchasing the toxic substance or getting cash by offering china-painting classes.  Life is miserable and grievous; some of which is made for us and some of which we make ourselves. Emily had a hard life. Everything that she cherished left her. Her dad likely put forth for her that each man she met was nothing but bad for her. The townspeople even state â€Å"when her dad passed on, it got about that the house was such was left to her; and as it were, individuals were glad†¦being left alone†¦She had become humanized† (219). This seems as though her father’s passing was kind of freedom for Emily. In a manner it was, she could start to date and court men of her decision and loving. Her dad couldn’t pursue them off any more. In any case, on the other hand, did she have the skill to do this, after each one of those long periods of her father’s past activities? It likewise seems as though the townspeople suspected Emily was exempt from the laws that apply to everyone else due to her high-class height. Presently since the death of her dad she might resemble them, a white collar class working individual. Sadly, for Emily she got home bound. She didn’t mingle much aside from having her attendant Tobe visit to do a few errands and go to the store for her. Faulkner delineates Emily and her family as a high social class. Emily carried her self with pride and individuals gave her that regard, based from dread of what Emily could do to them. Emily was a solid willed individual particularly when she went into the medication store for the arsenic.
